THAt’s My Day – Maintenance Supervisor Chris Powell

With more than 3,000 public housing units, our Maintenance team stays busy! From regular upkeep to emergency repairs, the THA Maintenance staff play an integral part in our ability to provide safe and appropriate affordable housing to Tulsa’s most vulnerable.

Chris Powell, THA Maintenance Supervisor

We asked Maintenance Supervisor Chris Powell what a typical day in his role looks like, and why he loves his job:

“I enjoy building relationships with our young residents within the Tulsa Housing Authority community by showing them a positive male role model. I’ve been at THA for nine years, and since I’ve been here, I’ve built great working relationships with my coworkers, as well as with outside vendors. I’m able to provide a working culture in which I’m able to teach others how to grow, and I’ve created a bond with people from all walks of life.

What I like most about my job in maintenance is providing a new resident a finished project in a new home, for their new living environment.

A typical day for me looks something like this:

7:30 a.m. – Arrive, welcome any new staff members, prepare for day

7:45 a.m. – Daily trash pickup

9:30 a.m. – Discuss site issues with Property Manager and assign work orders to staff members

10:15 a.m. – Process/complete assigned work order or process/complete make-ready apartments

12 p.m. – Lunch break

1 p.m. – Verify staff progress on assigned work orders (if staff identifies any issues, assist with completion of work orders)

2 p.m. – Finish work orders or make-ready apartments, handle any emergencies work orders that occur

3:30 p.m. – Return all tools to the shop, lock-up shop and office

4 p.m. – End of work day”
